ELECTRONIC FENCING

One just has to drive around any of the suburbs in our big cities to discover that people have become obsesses with protecting themselves against the invasion of crime, the have literally fenced themselves in in an effort to prevent intrusion attempts. No wonder then, that our society has found some relief in electronic fencing which can be installed on top of an existing wall or as a stand-alone fence. The zone length, number of wires and their distance are of some of the usual outlines for these fences.

While some people are trying to keep certain elements out, others are trying to find solutions to keeping their pets in! Some dogs develop the habit of leaping over fences which can cause somebody to get a nasty bite. This type of fencing for dogs is known as invisible fencing as it is buried underground around the area where the dog is confined. Metal prongs extend from a small transmitter on the dogs collar and the transmitter in turn responds to an electronic signal coming from the underground wire. The dog is warned as it approaches the fence by a warning beep, but if it ignores this and continues towards the fence, he gets an electrical stimulus. An additional fence can also be erected with the invisible fence as a means of security and privacy.

Advantages of this type of fencing is that it obviously requires less maintenance and is less expensive. It does not apply to keeping people out; first of all most people would object to wearing a collar and secondly electrical stimulus would not be strong enough to deter the intruder and provide a lethal Shock. The electronic fencing consists of electric wires carrying high voltage electric pulses, but robbers who are not wise to the workings of such a system often tamper with the fence and its wiring which then triggers off an alarm activation which is in turn transmitted to security personnel.

Installing an electronic fence for riding schools can be quite easy and can prevent terrible loss to the owners if the horses were to bolt and jump ordinary fences. Proper grounding will need three ground rods which ought to be copper-coated for maximum efficiency. They will require a certain thickness and should be placed about 3m apart from one another. Once the rod system is in place it will have to be connected with galvanized wire, with a ground rod clamp. Insulated cable can also be used. If one just wraps the wire around the rod, it will be a faulty connection. The energizer will compact the electric current to provide a high-voltage pulse that will be felt by a horse that touches the wire fence. Farmers can make use of this type of electronic fencing in an effort also to keep their live-stock in and predators out.

Electronic fencing has revolutionized the world we live in, not only providing top security for ourselves, but looking out for the safety of our pets as well.
